AE is an elite national open post collegiate and masters running team that actively competes in cross country, indoor and outdoor track field meets and road racing, including AAU , USATF Regional and National Club Championship events.

Paul Ryan was fourth overall and 1st M65-69 at the Anacostia Parkrun, finishing the 5K course in 21:14 (an impressive 82.1% age grade result).

Athletics East made its Masters XC debut at the 2019 USATF Club Nationals. A total of 14 runners made the trip to Bethlehem PA and survived a muddy, challenging course. Results:

Rockland County Alumni XC Run

Brian Kelly returned to his old stomping grounds over Thanksgiving Day weekend to compete in the annual Rockland County Alumni XC Run at Bear Mountain State Park, N.Y. Brian was 49th overall and 3rd M60-69 in 22:13.

Alexandria Turkey Trot

A trio of AE runners competed in the Alexandria Turkey Trot 5-miler. Mark Neff was 55th overall and 3rd in M50-59, finishing in 29:44. Bob Briggs was 73rd overall and 1st in M60-69 crossing the finish in 30:52. Steve Martin was 81st overall and 5th M50-59 with a time of 31:24.

Chris Johnston had a casual outing at the Fairfax Turkey Trot 4-miler, still managing a 3rd place M50-59 finish in 29:35.
Freeze Your Gizzard 5K

Four AE runners were in action at the Freeze Your Gizzard XC 5K in Leesburg. Eddie Chen was the overall race winner in 17:56. The other three finished in quick succession. Chris Johnston was 29th overall and 5th M50-59 in 21:17. Brian Kelly was right behind him, 30th overall and 1st M60-99 in 21:23. Bruce Becker was close behind, finishing in 34th overall and 6th M50-59 in 21:50.

The cross country season continued this weekend, with the MCRRC-sponsored XC on the Farm 5K. Mark Neff was third overall and 1st M55-59, in 18:55. Jose Idler was 15th overall and 2nd M45-49 in 21:44. David Sullivan was 47th overall in 25:42 and Dan Jones was 66th overall in 29:45.

The Navy Mile

A few AE runners were in DC on Sunday for the Navy Mile on Pennsylvania Avenue. Hasan Hobbs (5:07, 4th M40-49), Mark Neff (5:22, 4th M50-59) and Bruce Becker (6:18, M50-59) competed in the 5th running of this event.

Knights of Columbus 5K

Jim Garster and Bob Briggs squeezed a 5K in between loops around Burke Lake on Saturday. Jim was second overall on the hilly road course, finishing in 19:01 (unofficial). Bob was close behind, finishing third in 19:08.

Mark Neff finished 22nd overall and 3rd Masters runner in Annapolis, covering the 10-mile course in 1:01:18.

Hood to Coast Relay
August 23-24, 2019
Running with the 'Masters of the Universe', Bob Briggs helped the team capture the mens Super Masters division title (all runners over age 50) and finish 40th overall in a field of 1166 teams. Bob's 12-member team covered the 199-mile course in 24:02:11, averaging 7:15/mile.

Bob ran leg 10 (5.41mi) in 36:20, leg 22 (6.78 mi) in 45:49 and leg 34 (4.09 mi) in 29:06 in a less than 18-hour period.

The swim will be in calm and beautiful Lake Mercer. The water temperature, historically, has been in the high 70's, low 80's.
Bike Course (Sprint 11.5 miles)
The bike course will exit the park and is flat, fast and scenic. Sprint distance athletes will complete one loop
Run Course (Sprint 3.1 miles)
Both the Sprint and the Olympic distance racers will follow a course that was laid out for the US Cross Country Championships and is flat, fast and offers plenty of shade.
